Preparing technology-proficient teachers to meet the needs of the 21st century is a critical challenge facing teacher training programs. The University of Education campuses in Pakistan require at least one educational computing course as a core component of their teacher preparation programs. The goal of such courses includes individual development of both confidence and competency in the use of information technology in various learning environments.
As part of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between University of Education and Intel® Pakistan, the Intel® Education Initiative team has conducted refresher and training courses for faculty members of the University of Education campuses. On October 19, 2008, 25 faculty members attended a three day intensive refresher course, with teachers from the IT, English Science, Mathematics and Computers faculties participating.
During the refresher course, teachers participated in interactive sessions, developed CFQs as part of their unit plans and developed student assessment timelines. On the final day of the course, each group showcased their projects in an interactive session. The feedback from the teachers was extremely positive, with all participants appreciating the use of technologies and 21st century skills to boost their confidence in the classroom.
