Intel and Asia NGO’s Join Hands for Capacity Building and Innovation

What happens when you put leaders from Intel Corporation and Asian Non-Government Organization’s (NGO’s) in the same room? You end up with innovative ideas designed to improve people’s lives and to bring about social good.

Intel Corporation and The Hope Institute of Korea united to organize the first Asia NGO Innovation Summit in Seoul, Korea in September. The summit brought together 67 leaders, representing regional NGO’s from 15 Asian countries, to discuss two themes which Intel and The Hope Institute greatly value: Social Innovation and Capacity Building.

With this year’s slogan, “Innovate. Connect. Build.” the conference addressed the common challenges that NGOs face when creating and implementing capacity building and social innovation programs. The delegates shared ideas and approaches for overcoming these challenges during the conference’s breakout sessions on Community/Citizen Participation, Financial Sustainability, Governance and Partnerships, and Networking and Information Exchange.

Frank McGuire, Chairman of Global Learning Village said, “I think summits like these are invaluable. It brings a whole group of people who are grappling in different ways with similar problems. And by being able to come together and creatively argue and discuss and debate what is going on, you can distill different ways of trying to deal with it.”

The Secretary General of the United Nations, Ki-Moon Bahn, sent a congratulatory letter in support of the events objectives stating, “We have only 5 years left until the 2015 deadline to achieve the Millennium Development Goals, and this is the time we need even more devoted and brave NGOs.” The secretary’s letter continued saying, “I hope new ideas and strategies, as well as best practices are found and shared through this summit.”
