A workshop was organized at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore from 16th - 18th July 2008. The workshop aimed at achieving the following objectives:
To give a short hands-on training on multi-core programming,
Faculties from Visvesvaraya Technological University and affiliated institutes, including HODs and members from Board of Studies attended the workshop. There were group discussions that addressed: ideal curriculum for B. Tech courses, bottlenecks, possible solutions and support required.
During the three day workshop, there were presentations which were followed by group work and curriculum building exercises. There were also lectures by Prof. Jamadagni and Intel Technologists, Baskaran Ganesan and Jagadish Babu and guided lab sessions. Topics covered in the workshop were:
Multicore Architecture by Baskaran Ganesan,
CPU Performance and its measurement by Prof. Jamadagni,
Programming Multicore Architectures by Prof. Jamadagni, and
Confronting Multicore Programming by Jagadish Babu.
Towards the end of the session, plans were made for a follow-up session with autonomous institutes, so as to facilitate easy incorporation of the proposed curriculum in the syllabus.
