Reach to Teach Program – India

Education is taking on a whole new dimension in India. The web is seen as a viable communication and training vehicle for reaching out to the academia. It is important for students to be aware of the latest trends in the industry, as well as be able to forecast emerging technologies.
Intel Higher Education Program in India with its sustained focus on improving the quality of technical education initiated the Reach to Teach Program . The Reach to Teach Program provides a virtual alternative to learn emerging technologies in computer architecture and multi-core by harnessing the potential of web as a medium so that students and faculties get an opportunity to learn from academic and industry experts from the comforts of their own institutes.

The technology requirement at receiving colleges is very minimal; the colleges need to connect to a server through 256kbps internet connectivity, a computer and an LCD for class room viewing. The key features of Reach to Teach Program are scalability, interactivity, and content re-usability.

The Program was launched in March 2008, and was piloted with 10 engineering institutes impacting close to 500 B.E, B.Tech, M.Tech, Ph.D scholars and engineering college faculties.  A total of sixteen lectures on Multi core technologies were delivered by eminent academicians from premier research labs and engineering institutions in the country and technologists from Intel India. The lectures covered wide variety of topics on Multi Core, including Basics of Multi Core, parallel programming, storage and memory for Multi Core, packaging, architecture performance analysis, Virtual and cache memory, pipelined processors etc. Out of the 16 lectures, 9 lectures were delivered by Intel Technologists. The last lecture of the series was delivered by Dr. Praveen Vishakantaiah, President Intel India on December 2, 20008.

Reach to Teach Program – India Dr. Praveen Vishakantaiah gave an inspiring lecture on “ Innovations at Intel ”. He provided a snapshot of multi-disciplinary innovation, Tick Tock incremental innovation, advances in integration and packaging, advances in communication technologies, innovation in Memory technology, innovation in tera-scale software, innovations in digital health and bridging the digital divide. Dr. Vishakantaiah’s lecture was very well received by the participating students. The session was very interactive with more than 15 questions coming from various engineering colleges in the country. Dr. Praveen Vishakantaiah motivated students to take up higher education and research so that they get an opportunity to learn how to address complex problems, systematic and scientific thinking and coming out with new ideas and innovations.

The program was excellent. It only motivated me to obtain an MS  & PH.D degree, now I want to be a part of the Intel family too!! – Nikhil Narayan PES Institute of Technology

The lecture “Innovations at Intel” has encouraged me to do something on technical lines and take up some innovative task . – Suraj Shetty – NMAM NITTE
