Young learners of the Intel learn Program have been doing a wonderful job in Bawana a slum resettlement colony in the outskirts of Delhi. Having learnt 21st century skills through the program along with technology literacy, they decided to adopt the problems of the community as projects to work on and find solutions for. Their initiative which is for the good of the entire community has been inspiring and highly appreciated by all.
To showcase the projects created by the learners and share the issues the children have successfully worked on through projects, the Intel and Navjyoti India Foundation organized the Learner Showcasing Event for the learners on the 27th of April 2010.
The event, graced by the presence of Mr. Sandeep Aurora, Director Sales & Marketing - Intel India and Dr. Kiran Bedi, General Secretary of Navjyoti India Foundation, showcased projects on social issues like Gender Discrimination, Waste Management and Drug abuse. The learners had worked in groups on each project and done everything themselves: from collecting information, to interviewing people concerned and then coming up with solutions. Their presentations came from their heart since they had been involved in each step of compilation.
Showcasing their work
Very confidently, the learners showcased their work through beautifully detailed multimedia presentations. They dealt with sensitive issues like gender discrimination where they pointed out illiteracy and ignorance as the main reasons for gender discrimination and shared the message of equal opportunities for both girls and boys.
Their presentation on drug abuse dealt with the causes that make people turn to drugs and suggested that education, awareness and more job opportunities could provide hope to those who had taken this path. They also included some powerful pictures of the people they had interviewed for the project. Their third project dealt with the need for cleaning up their colony and suggested the provision of dustbins along with an awareness of healthier surroundings for its community members.
The audience taking a pledge with the learners
The enthusiasm and sincerity of the learners was a pleasure to behold and the entire audience, including the guest of honor and the members of the community took a pledge to work to their best on the issues presented.
Mr. Sandeep Aurora, the Guest of Honor for the evening, in his keynote address encouraged the learners to follow the path of education so that they can lead a better and dignified life.
Dr Kiran Bedi, who has been working tirelessly for these causes was visibly moved and was all praises for the Learn Program that inspired these children.
“It makes me so happy to see these young learners lead the way and find solutions for problems that we have been fighting against for a long time. I am really appreciative of the work Intel has been doing for the children for India”
It was a proud day for the young leaders of the community.
