Intel Celebrates Success in the Pre-Service Space
The first Intel contest for innovative use of technology in Pre-service institutes was organized in collaboration with the University of Education and the Intel® Education Initiative’s Intel® Teach Program. The award ceremony for the Intel Pre-service Contest was held at the University of Education Bank road campus, auditorium. Dr. Munnawar S. Mirza, Vice Chancellor of the University graced the occasion as chief guest.

The Pre-service contest aims to recognize Teacher Educators and Student Teachers who have provided rich learning opportunities for students to find and utilize current information and resources. The contest focuses on application of academic skills for solving real world problems and promoting activities that focus on making students life-long learners. It celebrates and recognizes teachers’ efforts to involve students in projects developing curricular content using technology resources as an integral component.

The contest was held in two categories:
Category A: Contest for Teacher Educators where faculty members are expected to show innovative integration of technology, the portfolios developed show teaching methodology integrated with technology.

Category B: A contest for Student teachers where B.ED/M.ED students enrolled with GCET‘s or University of Education to develop technology aided lessons.

Participants from the four University campuses were invited as the students and faculty members of the host University campus. Principals of the Bank road campus and the University of Education Faisalabad also graced the occasion. Faculty members from the thirteen GCET and 40 students were also present from 14 districts of Punjab. Guests also included Director Federal Colleges of Education - Prof. Talat Khurshed, Deputy Director, GCET at DSD - Mr. Tariq Mahmood, Director, Research and Development (TEVTA) - Syed Ifthikar Ali Shah, Vice Principal GCET Kot Lakhpat Mrs. Razia Ejaz, Principal Govt. HS School Ghakkar - Dr.Naeem Ullah, Ms. Shanaz Akhtar - Associate Professor University of Balochistan, Quetta.

2 Teacher Educators, from Islamabad and Lalamusa respectively won Rs.10,000 cash prize each, while 2 Teacher Educators from Bahawalpur and Balochistan won Rs.5,000 each. 2 student teachers from Faisalabad and Jehlum won Rs.5,000 each while 2 from Faisalabad won Rs.2,500 each.

Dr. Munnawar Mirza distributed the awards amongst the winners of both categories the appreciation awards for Principals and the faculty members. While addressing the audience she admired and praised the efforts of Intel throughout and expressed her desire for more from Intel. Appreciation gifts were also handed over to the principals and the faculty members. Ms. Taiyaba Shireen, Corporate Services Manager, Intel Pakistan Corporation presented gifts to the Chief Guest.
