E-Learning Facility Launch at Shimla (H.P.)

The E-learning facility developed by Government of Himachal Pradesh and Intel was inaugurated by Shri. I.D. Dhiman, Education Minister (H.P.) on 2nd of March 2011. Other dignitaries present at the launch were Dr. O.P.Sharma, Director, Higher Education; Shri. Dinker Burathoki, Additional Director Higher Education; Dr. Narender Avasthi, Jt. Dir. Higher Education and Mr. T.S Negi Dy. Director Higher Education, Himachal Pradesh. There were more than 100 Teachers and Staff members and 130 Students from the Government Girls' Senior Secondary School, Shimla present on the occasion.

50 Desktops were provided by Intel under its World Ahead program and a MOU was signed between the Department of Education, Himachal Pradesh and Intel, where the Department had agreed to provide infrastructure for the e-learning facility at the Government Girls' Senior Secondary School, Portmore, Shimla.

The Program began with the inauguration of the e-learning facility and unveiling of the brass plaque to commemorate the occasion by Chief Guest. This was followed by a Demo class in the newly inaugurated facility.

The guests then moved to the school auditorium where the proceedings continued with the lighting of the Ceremonial Lamp and soulful rendition of the Saraswati Vandana by the students. This was followed by the projection of the Intel CSR Video.

Dr. OP Sharma, Director, Higher Education, delivered the welcome address. He thanked Intel for the role it was playing in the promotion of ICT and emphasized the importance of use of technology in education. He also talked about various initiatives being planned for ICT in Schools in Himachal Pradesh.

Valsa sharing Intel's Education Initiatives

Valsa Williams, Head Corporate Affairs, Intel, N&E India, talked about the various Intel Initiatives in the State of Himachal Pradesh and explained how Intel is playing a role in transforming educational environment worldwide. She also presented Intel's roadmap for the e-learning facility and said the goal was to make GGSSS Portmore a Model School not only for Himachal Pradesh, but for the whole of India.

The Hon'ble Education Minister, Shri I. D. Dhiman, thanked Intel for its services in the field of Education in Himachal Pradesh and highly appreciated its initiatives. He talked about the importance of the use of computer technology in today's world. He said "In the present scenario we cannot think of survival without modern techniques and use of ICT".

Mrs. Sushma Kaushal, Principal, GGSSS Portmore, gave the Vote of Thanks and praised Intel's effort in promoting technology in the day to day teaching and learning process. She also thanked the Education Department and Intel for choosing Portmore School for the launch of the e-learning facility and assured that the facility would be well utilized.
