REPORT ON 2ND APSCHE-INTEL BEST INTEGRATION OF TECHNOLOGY IN EDUCATION AWARD CEREMONY

Background

The Andhra Pradesh State Council for Higher Education APSCHE is the first body of its kind in the country, set up as per the recommendations of National Education Policy (NEP), 1986. It primarily serves as a coordination and liaison body between the University Grants Commission, the State Government and the State Universities. It is one of the important functions of the Council to coordinate and determine standards in institutions of Higher Education or Research and Scientific and Technical Institutions in accordance with the guidelines issued by the University Grants Commission from time to time, apart from its academic and advisory functions. In order to encourage the Colleges of Education, Teacher Educators, student teachers and to understand the impact of ICT in Teacher education, Technology in Education Contest has been organized jointly by Intel and APSCHE.

Overview of the “Technology in Education” Contest 2010-11

The ‘Technology in Education’ award is held every year in collaboration with APSCHE to felicitate award winning colleges of education, teacher educators and student teachers across Andhra Pradesh. APSCHE with support from Intel, awards the winners for the effective integration of technology in teaching and learning processes in Andhra Pradesh. Three Colleges of Education, 5 Teacher Educators, 10 Student Teachers are honored for their use of technology in education and the integration of innovative teaching methods to promote 21st century skills and enhance student learning. A total of more than 1000 entries were received for the competition from Colleges of Education across Andhra Pradesh. After the final evaluation, which was jointly conducted by APSCHE and the Intel® Teach Program, winners were awarded cash prizes along with a joint citation from the Intel® Teach Program & APSCHE.

Key Objective of the Event

  • To celebrate the successful association between APSCHE and Intel in Andhra Pradesh
  • To encourage and felicitate colleges of education, teacher educators and student teachers of Andhra Pradesh to integrate innovative teaching methods to promote 21st century skills among students.
  • To showcase the impact of technology supported PBL that helps promote skills in children and enhances student centric learning and makes teacher as facilitators.
  • To achieve better programmatic convergence.

Welcome and Inauguration:
Award ceremony started by rendering vande mataram by Neelima and Chandana two student teachers who were the award winners at the event. Dr. Lakshmi Narayana, Commissioner, Technical Education and all dignitaries inaugurated the Award ceremony by lighting the lamp.

Dr. Raja Sekhar Reddy, Secretary, APSCHE Dr. Raja Sekhar Reddy, Secretary, APSCHE welcomed the dignitaries, award winners and the esteemed guests for the award ceremony. He recalled the 1st award ceremony which was held at Raj Bhavan, Hyderabad. He appreciated Intel’s efforts for collaborating with APSCHE in organizing the same for the second time too. He expressed his desire to continue the partnership with Intel in organizing the activities in the field of teacher education.

Prof. P Jaya Prakash Rao, Chairman, APSCHE Prof. P Jaya Prakash Rao, Chairman, APSCHE while addressing the gathering stressed the importance of technology in teacher education program and appreciated the efforts by Intel education program in taking various initiatives to promote technology usage in teacher educator institutions in AP. Teacher should become the facilitator and guide the students in Teacher Education program and empower them to use technology effectively. APSCHE Intel collaboration is the best example of Public Private Paternership in Andhra Pradesh. Globalization changed the role of Education. “What really matters is the quality of education. The focus should be on learning. Using Technology in education helps students to imagine. He congratulated all the award winners.



Intel Education Initiatives - Mr. Kishore Balaji, Head, South West India, Corporate Affairs, Intel

Mr. Kishore Balaji, Head, South West India, Corporate Affairs, Intel Mr. Kishore Balaji, Head, South West India, Corporate Affairs, Intel explained the 10 years of public private partnership in India. He gave details about various Intel Programs which bring innovation in education. i.e; Intel Teach, Intel Learn, Intel Science & Engineering fair , Intel Higher Education etc. He enlightened the mission and objectives of Intel Teach programs. He gave details about policy, curriculum & assessment, professional development, ICT, research and evaluation as a part of educational transformation model. He stressed on Intel education programs in Andhra Pradesh with a special focus on Teacher Education. He said that Intel is happy to associate with APSCHE working together to bring change in Teacher Education and Intel will continue to do so.

Message by Prof. Hara Gopal Reddy, Vice Chancellor, Acharya Nagarjuna University

Prof. Hara Gopal Reddy, Vice Chancellor, Acharya Nagarjuna University Prof. Hara Gopal Reddy, Vice Chancellor, Acharya Nagarjuna University in his speech explained the importance of a teacher in the classroom. Teacher should guide the students in Teacher Education program and empower them to use technology effectively. He appreciated the public private partnership like Intel APSCHE and asked them continue the good work for teacher education.

Prof. Iqbal, Vice Chancellor, Satavahana University Prof. Iqbal, Vice Chancellor, Satavahana University stressed that there is a change in teaching learning process. Earlier it used to confine to the black board and chalk piece, now technology empowers the teachers to make them change their teaching learning process. Technology helps to make the learning memorable. He appreciated the efforts taken by Intel – APSCHE towards improving teacher education.

Dr. K Laxmi Narayana, IAS, Commissioner, Technical Education Dr. K Laxmi Narayana, IAS, Commissioner, Technical Education inn his speech shared that the nation and students’ future will be decided in the classroom itself and the results will depend on teacher’s ability . Teachers need to be more responsible. Teachers should use resources wisely to get better reults in the classroom which will lead to success. He congratulated the winners. He highlighted that it is great to know that a corporate like Intel is collaborating with APSCHE to make a difference in teacher education.

Mr. Jitendra Chaddah, Director of Strategic Development, Intel India Mr. Jitendra Chaddah, Director of Strategic Development, Intel India reiterated Intel’s contribution towards education. He restated that Intel will continue their support to APSCHE and work together to make a difference in the field of education. This contest has proven to be a successful tool for recognizing and honoring the deserving students who have showcased the extraordinary work done to effectively integrate technology in their learning.
