One of my favourite parts of the job is improvement work. Last year, our team eliminated pushcarts from the factory floor. We implemented a machine-propelled ride-along system to improve safety and efficiency.

When I started to look for work out of college, I didn’t know much about Intel. I was studying engineering when they came to campus with a roadshow. I spoke to some company representatives and sent in my CV. I was offered a job at Intel and one other company in the same week. I knew enough to know that Intel is a big multinational that everyone wants to work for, so I accepted the position here. I joined the company in 2000 and have been at Intel for 19 years. That’s nearly half of my life, but I wouldn’t change a thing! It’s a great place to work.

In my role, I work with vendors, maintain equipment, look after the tools, and more. I never know what my day will look like when I show up. That’s the beauty of the job! It’s different every day. Usually, I start at 7:00am. I check the equipment, water flow, gas flow, chemical levels, and respond to any issues with the support team. By 8:30am I’m already on the floor meeting with vendors. I have to make sure parts are delivered on time to support the factory. I get lots of satisfaction from knowing that my work helps Intel deliver a quality product.

I’ve worked as a manufacturing technician, installing new tools in the factory. In 2010, I went on assignment to New Mexico, USA for a year to learn my trade in another factory. I worked with American colleagues maintaining machinery. The experience I gained there was amazing! I made lots of friends, learned a lot, travelled, and had a great time.

I’m motivated to improve technology that can change people’s lives for the better. My work impacts everyone in the factory. It’s amazing—the ideas we implement on-site here in Ireland are often used around the world. On top of the job satisfaction, Intel treats us well. The onsite gym is great, you get to travel, and the healthcare plan is a big bonus.

Looking forward to the future, I think I’ll stay where I am. In 19 years, I haven’t considered working anywhere else, despite offers. I’m happy to continue to be challenged right here at Intel.
