Every day, youth around the world use science and engineering in creative ways to think about the world we live in—and to develop new discoveries that have the potential to change lives. Intel supports interest in the STEM disciplines at all levels of education with incentives such as youth competitions, scholarships, research grants, entrepreneurships, and more.
The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair is the world’s largest precollege science competition, while the Intel Science Talent Search honors high school seniors who show exceptional promise in math and science. The Intel Schools of Distinction Awards recognize K–12 schools that excel in math and science education.

Science Competitions That Challenge and Inspire
This year’s Science Talent Search winners performed potentially groundbreaking research in microrobotics, breast cancer, and evolution and genetics. Alumni have gone on to win seven Nobel Prizes, two Fields Medals, four National Medals of Science, and 11 MacArthur Foundation fellowships.
We continue at the university level with the Intel® Global Challenge at UC Berkeley, which partners with the Global Entrepreneurship Leadership Symposium (GELS) to promote entrepreneurship worldwide. GELS trains expert mentors and gives them the tools to lead; the Intel Global Challenge brings together entrepreneur teams from world-class engineering and business schools.
Promoting Excellence in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Education

Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF)
Intel ISEF is the world’s largest science competition for students in grades 9–12. Each year, over 1,500 high school students from around the world compete for over $4 million in scholarships and awards.
Intel Schools of Distinction
Eighteen U.S. schools that excel in math and science education are honored each year as Intel Schools of Distinction, with awards of up to USD 25,000.
Intel Science Talent Search (Intel STS)
Each year, approximately 1,800 American high school seniors participate in the United States’s oldest and most prestigious pre-college science competition. Just 40 are chosen as finalists.
Global Entrepreneurship Leadership Symposium
The Global Entrepreneurship Leadership Symposium (GELS) works with Intel and the University of California at Berkeley to provide hands-on experience in observing and practicing mentorship.
