How to measure ambient temperature on an active thermal solution

To measure the ambient temperature for an Intel® processor, locate a thermal probe approximately 0.3" above the fan inlet. Unless, the fan is reversed, where the fan is blowing air out. If the fan is blowing air out, measure approximately 0.3" from the heatsink fins, nearest to any inlet area. Measuring ambient temperature of an active thermal solution is done nearest the processor, using the above steps. An active thermal solution implies that the cooling solution on the Intel processor has a component fan.

Intel® Celeron® Desktop Processor
Intel® Pentium® 4 Processors
Intel® Pentium® III Processor
